What is meltblown fabric ?
Meltblown fabric is one kind nonwoven fabric made by meltblowing process, which is a product made directly by melt spinning process.
Meltblowing is an important process for manufacturing fine filter materials and high blocking performance materials. It is also a method for manufacturing nanomaterials and a technology that is still developing rapidly.
Meltblown fabric has a wide range of application scenarios in daily life.
- Medical protection products
- Air filtration materials
- Liquid filtration materials
- Insulation Materials
- Oil absorbing material
- Wiping and industrial materials

Melt blown fabric for medical protective gown - SMS/SMMS material
Since the composite material of meltblown(M) fabric and spunbond (S) fabric has high hydrostatic pressure resistance, good air permeability and filtration effect, especially the composite material with membrane, has good barrier performance, and the filtration efficiency of non-oily particles can reach more than 99%.
For example, medical protective clothing made of composite materials with a quantitative specification of 60~100g/m2 can effectively block microorganisms, particles and fluids, and has a good protective effect on viruses like SARS (size 45nm) and HIV (size 90nm).
Meltblown Fabric for Disposable Surgical Mask
Melt blown cloth is the core material of mask. Medical mask and N95 mask are composed of spunbonded layer, melt blown layer and spunbonded layer. Among them, spunbonded layer and melt blown layer are made of polypropylene (PP) material.

Meltblown fabrics are mostly composed of randomly distributed 0.5~4μm polypropylene (PP) ultrafine fibers, so they have small pores and large porosity, large specific surface area, and light specific gravity. Its filtration efficiency for 0.3μm dust particles can reach more than 99%, and it can shield liquids and most bacteria. Its disadvantage is low strength. Due to its low strength, it is not suitable to withstand damage from external forces when used alone, and once its material is damaged, it will lose its protective performance. Therefore, it can be adopted to use high-quality meltblown nonwoven fabrics as the middle filter layer, and the outer layer or inner and outer layers with high composite strength nonwoven fabrics.

Spunbond nonwoven fabrics are the strongest among all types of nonwoven fabrics. They can have sufficient strength at a low unit area mass, and have certain water repellency without special treatment. They do not produce dust and hair loss during use, and the cost is low. Therefore, it is the best choice to use it as the outer layer or inner and outer layer material of the mask.

Meltblown fabric filter material
PP meltblown filter material is not only used in large quantities in water purification, but also has excellent chemical compatibility and is suitable for filtering strong acids, strong alkalis and organic solvents. It has strong dirt holding capacity, long service life and low cost.

1. Small pressure loss and stable filtration efficiency. The fine fiber layer inside the PP melt-blown filter material and the coarse and loose fiber layer outside form a double-layer fiber structure, which effectively reduces the pressure loss and maintains a stable filtration efficiency.
2. High filtration efficiency. Because the melt-blown cloth material is different from the traditional fabric filter material, the fiber diameter is relatively fine, generally 5-25 microns, and the irregular porous mesh structure in the three-dimensional space has a small pore size, an average pore size of <40 microns, and a large porosity, an average porosity of ≥75%, which effectively controls the filtration accuracy.

3. Resistant to mildew, acid and alkali, and resistant to organic or inorganic solvents (except chlorosulfonic acid, concentrated nitric acid and strong oxidants).
